Reasons
to switch to Corrugated Pallets
1.
Freight Savings. By air or over the
road, the added expense of heavier wooden pallets can be
considerable.
2. Workmen’s Comp. Weighing an average of
only 19lbs each, corrugated pallets are easily lifted easily. The
average wooden pallet weighs about 40lbs. Unlike wooden pallets,
corrugated pallets contain NO: nails, splinters, jagged edges,
boards, or bugs.
3. Health and Hygiene. Food packaging
companies, pharmaceutical companies and other types of fulfillment
operations using “clean rooms” have concerns with
fumigated pallets. Corrugated pallets are a healthier alternative
because they’re free of splinters, toxic cleaners, and
bugs.
4. Environmental. The average tree yields
three wooden pallets. About 550,000,000 new wooden pallets are made
each year, at a cost of 183,333,333 trees. Even if it were 20
pallets per tree, the cost is still 27,000,000
trees.“The World Trade
Organization estimates that about USD 1.1 billion of products move
hourly through world airports and harbors and most of this product
value are transported on wood pallets,” said Dr. Marshall S.
White, convenor of ISO/TC 51/WG 2. “Improving the efficiency
of these pallet designs as well as identifying substitute materials
will help conserve the world’s timber resources.”
5. Recyclable. Corrugated pallets can
be easily recycled into paper. Wooden pallets usually end up in
landfills.
6. Compliment the International Standards for Phytosanitary
Measures -015 (March 2002), USA
7CFR319.40(September 16, 2005), Mexico NOM-144- SEMARNAT-2004
(September 16, 2005) will be in effect.
